Recommended Books On Philosophy
One of my favourite philosophical books and a guide that I return to again and again. Marcus Aurelius, the ancient Roman Emperor wrote this unbelievably valuable set of principles based on the philosophy of stoicism in around 160-180AD. Widely regarded as one of the greatest works of philosophy ever written, the advice is timeless and will leave a lasting impression.
Another book I remember reading for the first time and thinking "Wow, this is unlike anything I have read before." You would almost certainly have heard about Eckhart Tolle's first book The Power of Now. Well, A New Earth builds upon the wisdom of this first book opening up a whole new way of looking at the world and the events of your life.
Viktor E. Frankl
Another philosophical classic written by Jewish Holocaust Survivor and Psychiatrist Viktor E. Frankl. Within his book Frankl outlines his method known as 'logotherapy' — the search for and gaining of meaning in life. Through his experiences as an Auschwitz concentration camp inmate during World War II Frankl describes the process by which meaning can be gained in even the most terrible situations.
A profound book that explores the underlying meaning behind many of the worlds most renowned myths and stories. In his book Campbell explores the 'hero's journey' — the common structure of many stories and religious texts from around the world — and digs deeper into what they may be able to reveal to us about humanity. An inspirational and insightful book that has been a catalyst for many writers, creators, filmmakers over the past 70 years.
Robert Greene & 50 Cent
Another of Robert Greene's best-selling books, this time a collaboration with rapper 50 Cent in a guide to the laws of power and philosophy of the street. Part biography and part expansion of the 48 Laws of Power, this book is an exceptional guide to becoming fearless and honing the strategy and philosophy required for success in business and life.
